Open Air Easter

As Easter was so late this year, it also marked the end of the Easter holidays so was our last chance to get out as a family and have some al fresco fun. Luckily the weather was mostly on our side and we were able to make the most of it.

On Easter Saturday, the local Food Festival began and with the warm sunshine was a busy and popular event. While Bear napped in her pushchair, we sat on the grass in the park where the festival was set and ate Thai food from one of the stalls and drank local beer.

Bunny spotted other children with painted faces so naturally begged to have hers done too. I gave her the choice of that or a cake and she chose that (naturally the more expensive option!). She loved the results and got lots of admiring comments from older ladies as we walked along the prom afterwards!

On Easter Sunday, rain was forecast so we went out early for an Easter Egg Hunt in the garden.

I’d created simple picture clues for the girls to follow – although Bunny’s wasn’t as easy as Bear’s!

It took them a while to warm up and understand what they were doing, but once the first egg was in the bucket, they quickly got into the swing of it!

And then all too soon, the last day of the holidays was here and Easter Monday was warm and sunny again. We took the dog for a walk along the clifftop, but as we arrived, Bear announced she was tired and wanted a nap so I took her back to the car and sat and waited with her.

After lunch, and with Bear awake and fed, we headed into Broadstairs with the scooters only to discover that there was a band at the bandstand, so our usual venue was off limits.  However, this didn’t put Bunny off and she scootered along the prom eagerly.

Bear scootering

Bear was slightly more cautious, but had a go!

And then she fell off so we cheered her up with ice cream from the world-famous Morelli’s before we took a last stroll up to the food festival to get some cheesecake I’d spotted on Saturday for dessert later.

And then, as the sun started to lose its heat, we made our way home and back to the routine of getting ready for school and work the next day. But it was a fun end to the holidays and the Easter weekend. Not long now until the next Bank Holiday and hopefully more good weather!
