So today the sun finally came out properly and sunshine is forecast for the coming days. I cycled to work and Bunny got to scooter to school – and boy does she race there these days! I spent the morning in the office, counting the hours until home time, trying to focus on the work I was doing, but easily distracted by just about anyone that came through the office (and when they come bearing cakes, it’s even harder to stay focused!).
I raced home as fast as my little legs would pedal and was greeted by a grumpy and clingy Bear who had just woken from her nap, but we headed outside with our sandwiches and sat on the grass under the umbrella to eat them. Bunny joined us and then I set to work. As I’ve mentioned before, we have a larger than average garden and due to a bit of ‘baby not sleeping through the night’ laziness, there are parts that look more meadow than garden so I’ve got lots to do!
I started by mowing the lawn where the girls’ toys are and this took a lot longer than expected as the two of them were still running around and kept putting things back when I moved them out the way! I rearranged the layout of the toys, put some water in the paddling pool and water table and laid out the mats under the umbrella and we all sat and ate ice creams. Reinvigorated, I cut some weeds back from the path in the middle of the garden and then the girls decided they wanted to help, so we all pulled some weeds up from the paths and filled the tub. They soon got bored and ran off to play some more but once dinner went in the oven, were happy to have some inside time to watch Ben & Holly, so I went into the front garden and pulled some of the weeds up from the drive and cleared away the dead bluebells which seemed to line the entire path! With just a few minutes to spare before dinner, I cut back the beast of a fuchsia bush that was taking over our patio and cleared that away too, leaving no more space in our green bin that was only emptied this morning!
With more sunshine forecast for the next few days, I can now get out and enjoy it with the girls, having made a decent start on clearing more of the garden. I still have a long way to go, but it definitely looks tidier. I’m meeting up with a very pregnant friend tomorrow and we may hit the beach with the children (and there’s bound to be ice cream at some point too) and then on Sunday I’m hoping we can have a day out somewhere with a picnic and walk. Although I do enjoy gardening, this weekend it’s nice to have got some done knowing we can all go out and have fun the rest of the time.
What are your plans for what feels like the first weekend of summer? Do you love the sunshine or prefer cooler weather?
